united communications supports Computerspielemuseum in fundraising campaign
Ensuring the history of digital games culture remains accessible
Berlin, July 2026 – Computer games are far more than entertainment; they are important cultural and economic assets of our digital age. Yet a significant part of their history is already at risk of being lost, as content, hardware and formats quickly become outdated and increasingly difficult to access. The PR and marketing agency united communications is supporting Berlin’s Computerspielemuseum with the development of a new circle of supporters to help safeguard this creative heritage and preserve it for future generations.
The fascination of computer games lies not only in their technological sophistication, but also in their role as a reflection of our time, our creativity and our social lives. Every generation uses games to tell stories, experience emotions and create new worlds. Computer games have established a unique form of digital art and culture.
However, this cultural heritage is under threat. Technology evolves at such a rapid pace that the history of computer games risks disappearing. Hardware becomes obsolete, operating systems are no longer supported, and many classic games become difficult or even impossible to play after only a few years. Without dedicated documentation and technical preservation, a significant part of this creative legacy could be lost forever.
Preserving the history of computer games matters because they represent far more than entertainment. They are a reflection of technological, artistic and social developments within our society. By documenting the origins and evolution of gaming and keeping historic games playable, the Computerspielemuseum provides access to an important cultural resource – for future generations, researchers and anyone interested in understanding how this remarkable success story began and what shaped its development.
The team at the Computerspielemuseum ensures that long-discontinued computer games do not disappear forever, but instead take their rightful place in history as significant cultural achievements – and, wherever possible, remain playable.
Founded in 1997, the Computerspielemuseum houses one of the largest gaming collections in Europe, comprising more than 35,000 titles as well as hundreds of historic consoles and computer systems.
The new circle of supporters aims to bring together committed individuals, companies and institutions who wish to support the Computerspielemuseum and actively contribute to the preservation, research, documentation and educational work surrounding the history and future of digital games.
“Computer games are an integral part of our cultural and media history. Preserving them is essential to ensuring that this creative heritage can be passed on to future generations,” says Martin Görlich, Managing Director of the museum. “We are delighted that united communications is supporting us in attracting new members to our circle of supporters who want to actively contribute to the museum’s work.”
“Through our work with leading display manufacturers, we see first-hand how the demands of the gaming community drive innovation and accelerate technological development. What sets new standards today is often history just a few years later,” says Elena Strzelczyk, Managing Partner at united communications. “Together with the Computerspielemuseum, we want to help preserve the history of digital games culture.”
